A man who was involved in an armed robbery ran inside a building and barricaded himself inside an apartment with two other people Tuesday, Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes told NBC 6's Hank Tester live from the scene as the situation was still unfolding. Reyes said later that it turned out there had been a woman and two children in addition to the suspect in the apartment.
A situation involving a man who barricaded himself in a Miami apartment has ended with no injuries, police said Tuesday evening.
The man, who was involved in an armed robbery, had run inside a building and barricaded himself in the apartment that contained a woman and two children, Miami Police spokeswoman Officer Kenia Reyes said.
She said earlier, when the situation was still ongoing, that a total of three people were believed to be in the apartment, at 731 NW 56th St. #203.
Police said three armed men robbed three victims who were riding in a car when they reached the corner of Northwest 7th Court and Northwest 56th Street. The suspects ordered the victims out of the car, robbed them of several items and fled on foot, according to police.
Minutes later police detained two of the three men, but one suspect got away and barricaded himself, police said. At the time he was believed to be armed, police said.
"We have SWAT team here, K-9, and hostage negotiators," Reyes said.
She said afterward that the woman and two children were safe.
The three men taken into custody are being investigated, Reyes said.
