Man Critical After Shooting at Plantation Car Shop

A man is expected to recover after he was shot in Plantation Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The man was shot when a gunman opened fire at a car sales and service shop in the 4400 block of Peters Road just before 3 p.m., according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue officials.

The victim was taken to Broward Health Medical Center. Police said he was shot multiple times.

BSO detectives said several people were in the shop when the shooting happened. Witnesses said they heard several gunshots and one witness said he saw the gunman run off toward the back of the business.

"I heard 'bang, bang, bang,' and I thought it's a gun, but assumed it was a car backfiring because I hear that all the time," said Luis Cabiya.

"I hear 4, 5, 6 shots and went to the window to see what I could see what was happening and couldn't see anything," said David Jeffrey.

Investigators said the shooter and the victim know each other, but wouldn't say how or whether they were employees or customers.

"Detectives have said that there was some type of confrontation that resulted in the shooting and that the circumstances surrounding that are still under investigation," said Michael Jachles with Broward Fire Rescue.

Authorities said no weapon was recovered and no arrests have been made.
