President Barack Obama has wrapped up a Miami fundraising swing that included an event at the home of Miami Heat legend Alonzo Mourning.

The South Florida stop follows a speech the president gave in Orlando on expanding economic opportunities for women and working families.

Obama called for equal pay for women and for Congress to pass more family-friendly workplace policies. He said women should be able to have a baby without fear of losing a job. In his words, "This isn't 1958 — it's 2014."

"It’s time to do away with workplace policies that belong in a 'Mad Men' episode," Obama told the crowd at Valencia College.

Thursday evening's fundraiser is for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee along with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other lawmakers. The event was set to feature a cocktail reception and photo opportunity, followed by a dinner. The president was greeted by several demonstrators from both sides of the political aisle at one stop. Signs on display included slogans "Honk to impeach Obama!" and "Windmills not oil spills."

The fundraiser is among the first Obama will hold ahead of the 2014 midterm elections. Obama will also raise money for Senate Democrats and the Democratic National Committee.

Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama visited Miami-Dade's Coral Reef Senor High School earlier this month to discuss the importance of education. The First Couple then spent a weekend at the Ocean Reef Club in the Florida Keys, where Obama golfed with Mourning.
