Pilot Rescued After Ocean Ditch

There's at least one lucky pilot in Pompano Beach this morning.
After taking off from the city this morning, the pilot of a Cessna 150 experienced trouble with the plane and was forced to ditch in the Atlantic Ocean, about a mile and a half from Hillsboro Inlet.
Fortunately for the pilot, whose name has not been released, an officer aboard a law enforcement boat in the area saw the plane go down, sped to the crash site, and plucked the man from the water. The boat then headed for shore, and the pilot was handed over to a waiting ambulance on an Inlet dock.
The extent of his injuries, if any, isn't known, but Kathleen Bergen of the Federal Aviation Authority said an investigation into the crash has begun. The Cessna 150 is a common choice for basic flight traning because of its simplicity and ease of use; though production stopped in 1977, it's the fourth-most produced civilian aircraft of all time.
