Coast Guard officials found a crashed plane Saturday in the Everglades, according to the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office.

The wreckage site is approximately 20 miles south of State Road 80 and 20 miles west of Boynton Beach, authorities said.

Officials had been searching for a small aircraft that took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport on its way to Leesburgh, said a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Palm Beach officials are launching airboats to investigate the crash.

It was not immediately known how many occupants were on the plane or if there were any survivors.
