Plantation K-9 Officer in Stable Condition After Violent Crash

Officer and dog remain hospitalized day after violent crash

A Plantation Police K-9 officer remained in the hospital in stable condition Wednesday, a day after he and his K-9 partner were involved in a dangerous, nearly head-on crash.

Officer Curtis Hampton is recovering from multiple fractures at Broward General Hospital following the Tuesday crash, Plantation Police spokesman Philip Toman said.

Hampton and his K-9 partner Rudi were on duty when their squad car collided with an SUV in the 6900 block of West Broward Boulevard.

Toman said the SUV, driven by Anne Jean-Louis Georges, crossed over the median and into the path of Hampton's car. A second car hit Hampton's vehicle from behind.

Plantation Fire Rescue used Jaws of Life to extract Hampton from the wreckage. He was airlifted with serious injuries, and Georges and the driver of the third car were also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, Toman said.

Rudi is still being treated for injuries at the Hollywood Animal Hospital, and is expected to recover.
