Polemical Cuban Pop Group Buena Fe to Take Stage in Miami

A controversial Cuban pop group will perform in Miami, despite the objections of some exile groups.

Several exile organizations have protested Buena Fe's upcoming performance. The band participated in a birthday celebration for Fidel Castro earlier this year. They also took part in funeral services for the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

El Nuevo Herald reports that Miami-Dade County will not cancel the concert.

Mayor Carlos Gimenez said he does not support Buena Fe or condone the group's provocative remarks. But following guidance from the county attorney, the event can't be canceled because of the existing contract and free speech guarantees of the First Amendment.

"Anyone in the community who does not support the appearance of Buena Fe in Miami is free to not attend the event.  We also respect our residents’ right to peaceful protest," Gimenez said in a statement.

The concert is slated to take place Thursday at the county auditorium.
