Police Chase Ends in Fiery Crash in Plantation

Two suspects were taken into custody after a police pursuit that began in Fort Lauderdale ended in a fiery crash in Plantation Monday, officials said.

The incident began around 3:30 p.m. near Northwest 31st Avenue and Broward Boulevard when officers spotted a black Mercedes sedan that had been taken during an armed carjacking in Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale Police officials said.

The car fled from officers and crashed into another car at Northwest 70th Avenue and West Broward Boulevard, setting the Mercedes on fire. The suspects fled on foot but were taken into custody, officials said.

Plantation Fire Rescue responded and put out the fire. One suspect and the driver of the car struck by the suspects were hospitalized but their injuries weren't serious. At least one firearm was recovered.

Police later identified the suspects as juveniles, both age 16. Both are facing charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest without violence and leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury.

One of the teens is also charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding with injury and obstruction of justice.
