Off-Duty Miami-Dade Officer Hospitalized After Crash on I-75

An off-duty Miami-Dade police officer is in critical condition Sunday after being involved in a crash on Interstate 75.

Maj. Ricky Carter was riding a Suzuki motorcycle on I-75 near NW 138th Street when, for unknown reason, he crashed into the guardrail.

Carter was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, according to MDPD.

"The entire Miami-Dade Police Department is keeping Major Ricky Carter in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," Miami-Dade police spokesperson Robin Pinkard said.

A blood drive has been organized for Maj. Carter. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at one of four locations from 9 a.m to 3 p.m.: Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami-Dade Police Headquarters in Doral, the Northside District Station and the Kendall District Station.
