Officers are investigating a shooting in a Hollywood neighborhood Sunday where one police officer was forced to open fire, killing a person following a confrontation.

Hollywood Police say the incident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. in the area near the 7000 block of Liberty Street.

Officer Christian Lata said police were told by another person that someone had shot at their vehicle - which was confirmed by a neighbor's surveillance camera that caught video of the incident.

Witness Nia Brown said the suspect opened fire on a white van as it drove down the road.

"It was two shots, like pow pow, but yeah, I thought it was firecrackers at first," Brown said.

After searching the area, officers found a person matching the description of the shooting suspect. A confrontation ensued and an officer was forced to open fire, officials said.

"They attempted to make contact with this individual and at one point there was an officer-involved shooting which occurred," Lata said.

The unidentified person was killed at the scene.

Officials have not released any additional information on the case, including if the man shot by police had opened fire.
