Police Exchange Gunfire With Suspects in Florida City

The shooting took place at 326 NW 8th Ave., police said

One man is in custody and police are searching for another after the pair exchanged gunfire with officers at a home in Florida City Monday night.

The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. as detectives were following up on a gun bounty tip at a home in the 300 block of Northwest 8th Avenue, Miami-Dade Police said.

As the officers approached the home, the two men began shooting and police returned fire.

The two suspects fled the area and a short time later, a 22-year-old man showed up at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound, police said. It was later determined that he was one of the suspects who shot at the officers, police said.

The second suspect remains at large. Police describe him as a black male between 20-30 years old, who was wearing dark clothing.

None of the officers were injured. Investigators recovered two firearms from outside of the residence, police said.

Tiffany Lewis said that her sister and three children were inside her sister’s house when police arrived.

Lewis said that after she got a call that police were there, she showed up to make sure her sister was OK.

A young witness said he saw people in a vehicle pull off a drive-by shooting.

“I was standing right there at the corner and then I saw the people reloading their gun,” the boy said.

Dozens of residents came out of their homes to watch the police response.
