Police Looking For Driver Who Hit Homeless Woman

Hollywood Police are trying to figure out if it was an accident or an act of hate when a homeless woman was hit by a truck Monday night.

“When he cut the wheel, it almost looks like he tried very hard to hit her,” said Sean Cononie of the Homeless Voice.

The accident happened outside the Homeless Voice on Federal Highway in Hollywood around 7:30 p.m. Monday. Hundreds of homeless people go to the location looking for help. But on Monday night, skid marks and split wood were what was left after the truck hit a woman sitting on the curb.

“A white pick-up truck came like a bat out of hell, drove to where the skid marks end up there, went in reverse like a bat out of hell, cut his wheel right here,” said Cononie. “She was on the ground. She tried to roll over, but he still cut the wheel and ran over her completely.”

Cononie runs the Homeless Voice and said he has known the woman who was hit by the truck for two years.

“Our clients are people with problems, just like anybody else, just their problems prevent them from having a roof over their head,” Cononie said.

The homeless woman survived the accident, but is still in the hospital.

Hollywood Police are looking for the white truck seen in the surveillance video. If you have any information about the accident, call Hollywood Police at 954-921-3410 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
