Police Not Searching For Car Trouble Attacker After Victim's Story Changes

Woman knows suspect, doesn't want to press charges: Police

Miami-Dade Police have ended the search for a man who reportedly beat and sexually assaulted a woman having car trouble, after the woman's story changed.

The 21-year-old woman had claimed she was attacked Sunday night after she began having mechanical problems with her car on I-95 and pulled off at Northwest 103rd Street near Northwest 6th Avenue, Miami-Dade Police said.

Police had said the woman claimed she was hit in the back of the head with an unknown object and pushed to the ground from behind while she was inspecting the front of her car.

The suspect repeatedly punched her in the face before sexually assaulting her and fleeing the scene, police said. Police later released a detailed description and sketch of the suspect.

But Miami-Dade police said Wednesday that the attack actually took place in Miramar -- not in Miami-Dade-- and that the victim knew the suspect.

Miramar Police said they investigated the case and the woman decided she didn't want to press charges. The case has been closed.
