Man Critically Injured After Carjacker Shoots Him, Steals Car

Miami-Dade Police are searching for an armed carjacker who left his victim in critical condition Saturday afternoon.

Police said the incident occurred in the 16000 block of NW 47th Avenue around 1 p.m.

Detectives said the suspect was standing outside a convenience store when the victim, identified by family as Robert Nunez, pulled into the parking lot. The suspect shot Nunez, who attempted to flee on foot but collapsed a few feet away. The suspect then took the Nunez's car keys from his pocket and fled westbound on NW 167th Street in the victim's vehicle.

"He could have killed him for nothing, for a car?" Nunez's sister said. "Yes, he had a nice car, but you can work and get one too."

Paramedics rushed Nunez to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he is in critical but stable condition.

Police said the suspect is a 22 to 25-year-old male with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a skully, white shirt, and black pants.

Nunez's vehicle is described as a 2001 to 2004 two-door light blue BMW convertible with a blue top. The car has Florida tag #CVWA13.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
