Police were searching for a suspect who they say assaulted a Miami officer Thursday by hitting him with a car.

The officer suffered lacerations to his arms in the encounter, which happened in the area of Northwest 14th Avenue and 7th Street not far from Marlins Park, officials said.

According to police, officers spotted a suspicious car and tried to stop it after realizing it had been reported stolen.

The suspect accelerated at the officer and hit him, officials said. The officer was taken to a nearby hospital where he was alert and conscious.

Officers set up a perimeter to search for the suspect, who police described as about 6-foot-4 and possibly Hispanic, who was seen wearing a blue shirt.
