Police are searching for a thief who posed as a flower delivery man but instead rushed inside a home armed, and brandished the weapon at a woman and her child while he searched for valuables.

"You know, he came up to the home with flowers. She thought it was a delivery? Oh my god. For Valentines Day. That’s a surprise," said Dalia Serpa, a neighbor.

The woman and child found a safe place in the home while the man was inside.

"I think the subject took advantage of the Valentine holiday. He knocked the door with flowers and candy when the young lady inside opened up, he rushed his way in," said Miami Police spokesman Freddie Cruz.

Police say the so-called "Valentine Bandit" is 30 to 40 years old and 6 feet tall. He was wearing a green hat and a white shirt.

He spent less than a minute in the home and didn’t hurt anyone. But he did steal some cash and jewelry.

Police fanned out in the neighborhood talking to residents.
