Drivers Tweet Turnpike Shootout

Drivers stuck in traffic and a few Miami athletes tweeted about the shooting on the Florida's Turnpike Thursday as events unfolded. Brett Hayes of the Miami Marlins gave more details Friday.

The northbound lanes on the Turnpike between Kendall Drive and Bird Road were shut down early Friday morning after officials were investigating a body found lying on the roads.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a pedestrian was struck in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike near SW 40th Street around 2 a.m.

FHP said the victim was hit by multiple cars that all remained at the scene after the incident.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the drivers sustained any injuries.

The age and gender of the victim have not been identified. Officials said the victim was not carrying any identification.
