In a moment captured on video, a 7-Eleven store clerk stabbed a robber, who still took off with the cash register tray despite being wounded, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred on March 14 at about 2:40 a.m. at the 7-Eleven on 14 N. Federal Highway in Pompano Beach.

"A convenience store clerk didn't wait around to see what else the robber had up his sleeve. Once the suspect made his criminal intentions clear, the employee defended himself with a knife and then ran out of the store," BSO said in a statement.

The video shows a man walking into the convenience store, picking up a pack of a gum, stepping up to the counter and fiddling through his wallet as if he were going to pay. A few seconds later, he walks away to the side of the store – making his way behind the counter.

"That's when the cashier goes into defense mode, stabs the suspect with a pocket knife and then runs to safety," BSO said. "For his part, the robber grabs the cash register and leaves."

The suspect is described as being five feet, 10 inches tall with a closely cropped haircut. At the time, he wore a blue dress shirt, red shorts and red sneakers.

Anyone with information on the suspect's identity is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-321-8477. Tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a $3,000 reward.
