A group of ponies are back home after they broke loose and ran free for nearly an hour near the Florida Turnpike in northwest Miami-Dade Wednesday morning, sending authorities on a wild chase.

The group of five ponies were first spotted on the southbound side of the Turnpike between Red Road/57th Avenue and I-75 in northwest Miami-Dade just before 8 a.m. It's not known exactly where the ponies came from or how they broke loose.

The ponies galloped, occasionally stopping to munch on grass, alongside the highway until reaching the Miami-Dade/Broward county line around 8:45 a.m.

Florida Highway Patrol officials and multiple Road Rangers tried to block in the ponies with police cars lined up alongside the highway, but the group ran off.

The group was herded near a broken fence just before 9 a.m. and the chase briefly stopped, but the ponies ran off once again.

By 9 a.m., the group of ponies had turned around and made their way to a residential neighborhood just off the roadway, weaving in and out of backyards and even stopping for a drink at a small pond before a resident was seen waving them away.

The chase finally came to an end around 9:20 a.m. after the ponies were seen being corralled back behind a white fence at a home.

The group stopped for water, and were seen rolling around and playing in the grass after their eventful morning.
