Porn Site-Surfing Cop Gets Reprimand

Wilton Manors officer gets slap on the wrist for on duty computer incident

A Wilton Manors cop will get a written reprimand after he surfed a porno website while on duty.

Officer Lazaro Rodriguez, a 12-year police veteran who's worked for the Broward Sheriff's Office and Lauderhill and Davie Police departments, violated city and police policies in the Sept. 3, 2010 incident, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The 33-year-old was caught on surveillance video going into a human resources office to view an adult website, which he claims he accessed to see if a friend was on the website.

"It was a lapse in judgment," Lazaro said. "My curiosity to see if it was her got the best of me."

Rodriguez has been given outstanding and above-satisfactory performance rating by his bosses in Wilton Manors, where he's worked since July 2007. He was commended in 2010 for quick response to an armed robbery that led to three arrests and the recovery of the stolen items.

After Rodriguez was promoted to sergeant in 2010, he was later demoted after he says he took a nine-week leave of absence for job stress. While he's been working for a paint vendor for Home Depot, he said he wants to get back his sergeant stripes and return to duty.

"My second job is not police work and doesn't have the same level of stress," he said.

Human resources manager Dio Sanchez told the Sun-Sentinel that it appears the porn surfing was an isolated incident.

"We have no knowledge of this being a problem, other than this one incident," Sanchez said.
