Possible Human Bones Found Near Miami Beach Water Treatment Plant

Police searching area after construction workers find bones

Miami Beach Police are investigating after possible human bones were found near a city water treatment plant.

The discovery was made Wednesday by construction workers in the area of Dickens Avenue near 75th Street, Miami Beach Police spokeswoman Det. Vivian Hernandez said.

Police haven't confirmed the bones were human and are waiting on confirmation from the medical examiner's office.

Hernandez said detectives would be searching the area Thursday after Wednesday's search was called off due to poor weather.

A worker who claims he found the remains said he has no doubt they are human.

Lauro Ponce says his company was hired to redo the fence around the plant and he was walking on the grounds when he spotted what he thought at first were Halloween decorations.

Ponce said instead he found a human skull, which he believes belonged to a young girl.

"It still hurts in my heart, because I got kids, and I don't want anything to happen to them," he said.

Ponce said he went to church Wednesday night to pray about whet he had seen.

"I was telling God to give peace to whoever lost their child," he said.
