Preseason Week Three Preview: Jaguars at Dolphins

Miami's penultimate game of the preseason will take place on Thursday against the Jaguars

The Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars will continue the preseason with a game at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday.

Both clubs are expected to use a healthy dose of regulars in the penultimate game of the preseason. With the regular season quickly approaching, this contest is often a team's last chance to get the starting unit into game-ready shape. The coaching staff is also still evaluating players who are looking to make the team, and those men should see time in the second half.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to start this game and be on the field for the entire first quarter at a minimum. Miami's quarterback competition is ongoing, but Fitzpatrick continues to have the upper hand. The veteran could seal up the starting job with a strong performance against Jacksonville. Fitzpatrick played with the starting unit in the first game of the preseason and with the second unit in last week's game.

Josh Rosen will play on Thursday as well and he will be looking to beat the odds and overtake Fitzpatrick on the depth chart. For Rosen to potentially accomplish this, he will need to be at his best against the Jaguars. Rosen would also benefit from a poor effort from Fitzpatrick during the first half. The 23-year old has had a decent preseason thus far, but head coach Brian Flores has been critical of him at times.

In addition to the battle at quarterback, Preston Williams remains a player to watch. Williams began the preseason looking to win a roster spot, but he may now be in the mix for significant playing time. Williams has had an exceptional preseason and has shown off a playmaking ability. The 22-year old went undrafted and he has benefited from some injuries to Miami's offense. Williams figures to see plenty of balls thrown his way against Jacksonville, even with the potential return of Jakeem Grant.

Reshad Jones returned to practice this week along with Grant, but his status for this game is uncertain. Jones has not played in the preseason thus far due to a foot injury, but his return is a promising sign. The safety had been in a walking boot prior to his work in practice this week. Minkah Fitzpatrick has shifted over to strong safety while Jones has been out.

Thursday's kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
