The Miami Hurricanes and Miami Marlins will renew acquaintances on Tuesday for an exhibition game at Roger Dean Stadium.
Its a game that the school and team have played several different times. While the outcome does not count for either squad, the game offers a fun experience for a lot of young players. The Hurricanes are in the midst of a solid start to their season, while the Marlins will be playing a game for the first time since 2015.
The Marlins will send prospect Jake Esch out to the mound to make the start in what is expected to be a two-inning stint. As is the norm in the early going of the exhibition season, the Marlins will take it easy on all their players. Esch is not a candidate to make the team, but could open some eyes on the coaching staff for the future.
After Esch's day ends, he will be followed by Kendry Flores, Tim Berry, Brian Ellington, Scott McGough, Austin Brice, Nick Wittgren and Cody Ege. Each pitcher is expected to one inning which would round out the nine-inning contest.
As for the lineup, the Marlins should trot out one that closely resembles the expected Opening Day version. Each batter may only see one or two at-bats, but names like Giancarlo Stanton and Dee Gordon are expected to play. This will be the first time that Miami's bats will face pitchers playing for an opponent in months.
The Hurricanes will likely use their regular lineup as well in a break from their schedule. Miami is coming off a series loss to the Florida Gators and is 6-2 overall on the season. The Hurricanes began the year with five straight wins and currently are ranked sixth in the nation.
Tuesday's game against UM will get underway at 1:05 p.m.
