Preview of The Week Ahead: 8/13 – 8/19

From a special anniversary to clearing the shelters, it’s a big week in South Florida. Here’s a preview of what you can expect in The Week Ahead:

5th Anniversary of DACA: DACA is celebrating its fifth anniversary on Tuesday. The policy, which was created by President Obama, helps protect undocumented children who came to the U.S. at a young age from being deported.

New Learning Center for Blind & Visually Impaired: On Wednesday, the Miami Lighthouse Foundation for the Blind and Visually Impaired will celebrate the grand opening of its new children’s learning center. The new 72,000 square-foot building will house Miami Lighthouse’s diverse programs for children from birth through pre-school.

Sen. Jack Latvala to Visit Florida: On Wednesday, Sen. Jack Latvala will make several stops in the Sunshine State, including in Hialeah. During those stops, the republican will announce his future political plans, which could include a run for governor.

Special Meetings for Miami-Dade Public Schools: Miami-Dade County Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, as well as school board members, will get together on Monday for a special meeting. They are expected to announce new programs and initiatives for the upcoming school year.

Dog Dung Dispute: On Thursday, a South Florida man accused of shooting and killing his neighbor during a dog poop dispute is expected to be back in court for a hearing. Omar Rodriguez is facing first degree murder charges.
