Prime Suspect Named in Hialeah Double Murder

A man is wanted by Hialeah Police following the deaths of two women.

Police now consider 43-year-old Adrian Leyva the prime suspect in the murders of his ex-girlfriend, Tina Gutierrez, 32, and her neighbor, Martha Gomez Perdomo, 82.

"We've got enough evidence thus far that we can say for sure that the younger victim, Tina Gutierrez, 32 years old, her ex-boyfriend, Adrian Leyva, was the one who committed these two horrific and violent crimes," said Sgt. Carl Zogby.

The women were found dead on Aug. 10 in two separate units at a residence located in the 900 block of East 23rd Street.

Investigators said Leyva is homeless but is known to inhabit the east Hialeah industrial area and Miami's Allapattah neighborhood, where he regularly finds work at auto body repair shops.

He reportedly has developed a reputation of using his outgoing and social personality to manipulate shop owners into providing temporary shelter while he works at their business.

Leyva is also known to frequent cafeterias along Hialeah's eastern corridor and Allapattah.

"He's got in his left eye, he's got some sort of lazy eye going on. In Spanish, that's his nickname actually because they know him because of that defect he has in his eye," Sgt. Zogby said.

Investigators originally said they needed to locate Leyva "concerning his welfare," but he has now been named the prime suspect in the murders.

His criminal history includes burglary, violent crimes and false imprisonment, according to police.

"Apparently he is capable of a lot of evil and we need to find him," Sgt. Zogby expressed.

Details surrounding how the women died have not been released.

Anyone with information on Leyva's whereabouts is asked to contact police at (305) 687-2525 or Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
