Prosecutors say the wife of convicted Ponzi schemer and disbarred lawyer Scott Rothstein, and her friend should get a reduced sentence for trying to hide jewelry from authorities, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

Kim Rothstein currently faces a maximum five-year prison sentence for hiding and trying to sell about $1 million in jewelry.

U.S. Attorney's Office records say that Kim Rothstein and her friend "provided substantial assistance in the investigation or prosecution of another person who has committed an offense," prosecutor Lawrence LaVecchio wrote.

The documents did not specify how much the sentence should be reduced. The sentence hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12.

The two women testified against a jeweler and a man who tried to sell some of the jewelry, the newspaper reported. The men have plead guilty to the related charges.
