Rapper Kat Dahlia Arrested for DUI in Miami Beach: Police

Miami-bred rapper arrested early Tuesday on Alton Road: Miami-Beach Police

Rapper Kat Dahlia was arrested on charges of DUI and resisting arrest without violence early Tuesday in Miami Beach, police said.

Dahlia, who real name is Katriana Huguet, was arrested in the 4700 block of Alton Road around 3:30 a.m., according to a Miami Beach Police arrest affidavit. She was being held on $2,000 bond early Tuesday and it was unknown whether she has an attorney.

According to the affidavit, an officer spotted Dahlia speeding southbound on Alton Road in a Nissan Altima with the headlights off.  She was clocked at 50 mph in a 30 mph zone and was pulled over, the affidavit said.

When the officer approached the car, they noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car, the affidavit said. When Dahlia handed the officer her driver's license, the officer noticed she had blood shot eyes and her speech was heavily slurred, the affidavit said.

The officer asked Dahlia to exit the car but she said she couldn't because she was wearing a swim suit, the affidavit said. The officer let her cover herself and she got out of the car.

Dahlia leaned on the car for support after she got out, then became argumentative with the officer when the cop asked her to perform some DUI tests.

"You only assume I might be drunk because I forgot to turn my headlights on and I'm a speeder," Dahlia said, according to the affidavit.

Dahlia cursed at the officer and refused to perform the tests, the affidavit said. When the officer told her she was under arrest she refused to put her hands behind her back and tensed her arms in front of her body and told the officer he couldn't arrest her, the affidavit said.

The officer had to force her hands behind her back to place her into handcuffs. Once she was taken to the police station, Dahlia refused to answer questions related to filling out an arrest report, the affidavit said.

Dahlia, who is Cuban-American and Miami-bred, according to her website, turned 23 on Monday.

Y100 radio personality Mack said he's shocked by the news of her arrest.

“You know she had a great record with ‘Gangster,’ had about 6.2 million views on YouTube. She’s an amazing, amazing vocalist,” he said of Dahlia. “I’m so happy for her, but sad to hear that she got into this trouble.”

Miami Beach Police said in a tweet, "Celebrity or not #DontDrinkAndDrive @KatDahlia arrested for DUI earlier today. #ArriveAlive."

Mack said he didn't think the arrest would begin a downward spiral for the rapper, but instead would be a wake-up call.

Mack said he believes her career should be fine.

“The thing about artists and getting busted, you know, they always say this. They say there’s no such thing as bad press, you know?" he said. "And I think what it is, it gets people talking about it."
