Ray Lewis: More Crime if NFL Lockout Goes On

Ray Lewis says lockout would boost crime

As if the specter of an entire NFL season lost by an ongoing lockout wasn't bad enough, now fans have to deal with the possibility of a lockout-related crime spike sure to tear apart the fabric of American civilization.

Football fans have plenty of reasons to decry the ongoing lockout, but on Sunday Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis pointed out a new cause for concern: more crime.

In an interview with ESPN, the former Cane said "Do this research if we don't have a season -- watch how much evil, which we call crime, watch how much crime picks up, if you take away our game."

When he was asked why he thought some NFL players would resort to crime if the NFL cancels games due to the lockout, Lewis simply replied, "There's nothing else to do."

Is that an oversimplification of the ramifications of the lockout? Perhaps, but as if on cue Chicago Bears running back Garrett Wolfe was arrested Sunday morning in Miami Beach for theft, disorderly conduct and assaulting an officer. The dispute started when Wolfe refused to pay a $1,600 bill at at Cameo nightclub on Washington Ave.

This is how the NFL Lockout Apocalypse starts, with a dispute over a bar tab on South Beach. Don't say you weren't warned.
