Report: Marlins to Interview Larry Bowa

The Marlins will reportedly interview Larry Bowa as part of their search for a new manager

The Miami Marlins are wasting no time in their search for a new manager and will interview Larry Bowa, according to a report by MLB.com.

Dan Jennings managed his final game on Sunday and is now expected to mull over a return to Miami's front office. Rather than hire another inexperienced skipper, it appears that the Marlins are eyeing veteran managers. Bowa would certainly fit that criteria with his 853 career games as a manager.

Bowa, who is 69 has managed the San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies. He's also served as a coach for many years and is currently the bench coach for Philadelphia. His last season as a skipper came in 2004 when Bowa led the Phillies to an 85-75 record. That season ended abruptly when the Phillies fired him with two days to go.

One thing Bowa's teams were known for was their ability to never give up and to fight until the last out. Bowa has an intense demeanor which is quite a departure from Jennings' style. Bowa's had some success as he picked up the Manager of the Year award back in 2001. However, Bowa also has never reached the playoffs as a manager.

When the Marlins fired Mike Redmond in May, they moved Jennings from his role as general manager to the dugout. It was a move that opened eyes and raised eyebrows. Jennings had never coached at a professional level before, but ended up with a decent record considering the state of his roster. Jennings' final mark as a manager was 55-68, and it is not expected that he will seek a coaching role in 2016.

Miami is expected to interview more candidates to be their next manager. The coaching staff could also see changes after a disappointing 2015 season.
