Family Seeking Answers After 8-Year-Old Girl Shot During Drive-By Shooting That Injured Father

A family in Northwest Miami-Dade is coming to terms with the tragic shooting of a young child while pleading for answers to help them get justice.

The 8-year-old girl was killed after a bullet struck her in the head during an apparent drive-by shooting Sunday evening near NW 101st Street and 25th Avenue.

The girl was walking with her father, who was shot in the torso. Both were transported to Ryder Trauma Center, where the child is reportedly brain dead and the father remains in critical condition according to family members.

Miami-Dade Police have put out a $23,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of those involved.

"We need to bring justice to the family, justine to the child and justice to this community," said Miami-Dade Police Department Director Juan Perez.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho tweeted an emotional reaction to the latest shooting involving a child:

The shooter's vehicle is described as a newer model black four-door Ford Fusion with dark tints.
