A man is dead after being hit Saturday by a garbage truck while crossing the street.
Surveillance video shows an older man pushing a cart as he tries to cross the street. That's when the garbage truck then crashed into the man, killing him.
Ken Hernandez was working at the Botanica El Viejo Lazaro on West Flagler and Southwest 58th Ave when he saw the incident happen. The store's cameras caught the incident just after 8 a.m.
"It was even more hard to know that the body was right in front of the store," said Hernandez. "He would say hello, goodbye. He was a friendly neighbor."
Hernandez said the man was in his late 60s or early 70s.
Another man said he was friends with the victim and they would often have coffee at a nearby cafeteria. He said the man was hard of hearing.
One witness says the driver of the garbage truck was nervous and remained on the scene.
