Rooster Returned to Little Havana Business

College pranksters return kidnapped sculpture after owner cuts deal

A Little Havana business owner may be crowing over the return of his 6-foot tall rooster, but he's not saying who returned the fiberglass fowl.

The 70-pound rooster sculpture, which disappeared from its post in front of El Pub on 8th Street Friday, was returned Wednesday night after it was taken by a group of college pranksters, according to the Miami Herald.

Pablo Canton, who runs the Little Havana NET office which owns the rooster, said he made a deal with the students not to turn them in if they returned the rooster in one piece.

"All I can tell you is that it was a group of guys," Canton told the Herald. β€œThey asked me to keep their identity a secret."

The students did make at least one modification, painting the once-colorful body of the rooster white

"I just wanted my rooster back,” said Canton, who had painted the sculpture in the red, white and blue of the American and Cuban flags.

Canton said the students will pay the costs to repair the rooster and put it back on the street, and will perform community service in the neighborhood.
