Rural Parkland Home Destroyed in Fire

One firefighter was injured as crews responded to a large house fire early Thursday that caused extensive damage to a home in rural Parkland.

Neighbors tell NBC 6 South Florida they heard a loud explosion around 2 a.m. and saw the house, located at 8500 Northwest 72nd Street, go up in flames.

They say a couple in their 50's or 60's lived in the house, and that they kept several animals on the property, including several dogs, miniature horses, as well as a large koi fish pond.

NBC 6 South Florida has learned that two of the couple's dogs perished in the fire.

Firefighters say five adults lived at the home. All are said to be okay.

Crews experienced difficulty battling the blaze due to its rural location. Firefighters were running hoses as far as a mile away to get adequate water to the house to fight the fire which sits on a large, ranch-like property.

Crews remain on the scene. One Coral Springs firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, but is said to be okay.
