This week's stabbing deat at Coral Gables High School was supposed to shine a spotlight on weapons in schools, but in that "put the guns away" kind of way.

Not like this.

Miami-Dade police arrested seven students Thursday morning for bringing guns and knives to middle school and high school campuses. One student even brought a Taser.

Students were arrested at Palm Springs Middle, Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior, Michael M. Krop Senior, Miami Coral Park Senior, Lake Stevens Middle and Miami Springs Senior High.

In the first incident, a 16-year-old South Dade Senior High student was arrested while on his way to campus after his parents called police to report that their son had taken the Leatherman knife with him as he left for class, Miami-Dade police said.

The teen was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, and was taken to a juvenile assessment center.

In the second incident, a revolver was recovered at Miami Springs Senior High, according to Miami-Dade School Police.

Sources said the gun, a .38 revolver, was loaded. Police were still at the school investigating the incident.

The discoveries come just two days after 17-year-old Juan Carlos Rivera was stabbed to death at Coral Gables Senior High. Classmate Andy Rodriguez, also 17, has been charged with murder in the incident.
