SeaWorld Orlando Rehabilitates 3 New Manatees

Three new manatees are being rehabilitated at SeaWorld Orlando.

The theme park company said Tuesday that its Orlando park had received earlier this month a 1,255-pound manatee mother, her young calf and another manatee from Satellite Beach.

Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission believe the 10-foot-2-inch mother was hit by a watercraft. She has air trapped inside her body cavity and is experiencing problems with buoyancy, which could affect her ability to eat and nurse her calf.

SeaWorld veterinarians placed the mother in a wetsuit to help stabilize her, and she was able to release the trapped air.
