Missing Miami Woman Found Safe, Charged With Falsifying Report: Police

A 32-year-old Miami woman who had been reported possibly abducted early Thursday was charged with falsifying a police report after she was found safe, officials said.

Karla Vasquez and her SUV were found safe in the area of 157th Street and 15th Avenue in North Miami Beach, police said.

Vasquez was later charged with falsifying a police report after she lied about being kidnapped, police said.

According to an arrest report, Vasquez had been out drinking with a man and was never harmed.

"We had enough to arrest her for filing a false police report," Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat said. "It appears she was never in danger, she had a number of resources from the beginning until late hours into the day."

According to authorities, Vasquez sent a text message to her husband saying that she was in danger early Thursday. When her husband didn’t respond, Vasquez sent another text. When he tried to call her back, there was no answer and he called police.

Officers were searching the area around Northwest 42nd Street and 18th Avenue earlier Thursday, where Vasquez was last thought to be located.

Vasquez was found driving the vehicle she claimed to have been kidnapped in, police said.

Police had said earlier that they were also questioning a man who may be involved. He was later released and won't face charges, police said.
