Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is urging South Floridians to remain calm while maintaining Ebola preparedness.
"There is no cause for panic, panic I think is always counter productive, you never get anything solved through panic," Rubio told reporters at a news conference at Miami International Airport Thursday. "But it is important to be both aware and engaged."
Rubio met with officials from the Florida Department of Health, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Miami-Dade officials including Mayor Carlos Gimenez.
The meeting comes a day after it was learned that the plane on which a Dallas nurse flew the day before she tested positive for Ebola made a stop at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Officials said they're looking into their protocols at MIA and what further steps may need to be taken.
“I think the prudent course of action would be to prohibit travel from those affected countries until such time as that is under control," Rubio said. "I’ve weighed the arguments on both sides that are made in favor and against it, and I think the arguments in favor are much stronger so I would support that and in fact I've called for that today."
