Senator Nelson Files Bill Authorizing Airstrikes in Syria Against ISIL

United States Senator Bill Nelson filed legislation Monday to authorize airstrikes inside Syria to go after the terrorist organization, ISIL.

Nelson’s bill would authorize only airstrikes inside of Syria. The second section of the authorizatio0n provides “no authorization for use of rotational ground forces” in the fight against ISIL in Syria.

The authorization for airstrikes would expire three years after the date of the resolution’s enactment.

“This is a barbaric group that’s committed heinous acts of torture and murder, and we have to go after them now - not only in Iraq, but in Syria as well,” Nelson said in a statement.

The White House has been utilizing airstrikes in Iraq to try to weaken the terrorist organization’s hold and protect American interests. ISIL is responsible for the beheadings of two Americans, including Miami journalist Steven Sotloff.
