Saada Aboubaker says her brother, Frantz Aboubaker, needs medical care and not jail. He faces two charges after he stole a truck in Hollywood that had two baby piggies on board this week, the BSO said.
Saada Aboubaker is a sister rife with pain. She says her brother, Frantz Aboubaker, went for mental health treatment, but without insurance, the system failed him.
Instead of staying in a hospital, he committed actions that landed him behind bars, she says.
"He had his whole future ahead of him, and it was just taken away from him," Saada Aboubaker said.
She said her brother suffers from bipolar schizophrenia, and earlier this week he snapped.
On Wednesday Frantz Aboubaker, 30, stole a truck in Hollywood that had two baby piggies on board, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Shortly afterward both the the animals and the truck were located when a BSO deputy spotted the vehicle in the area of Atlantic Boulevard and Powerline Road in Pompano Beach.
According to the police report, authorities attempted to stop Aboubaker when he tried to take off. He was hit with a taser through an open window and taken into custody.
He faces charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and resisting a law enforcement officer, the BSO said.
Saada Aboubaker said her brother isn't a criminal, but he is sick and needs proper medical care.
"What now, what now," she said. "He has to go to jail and suffer instead of going to a hospital and get help. That's the alternative in this state, jail?"
