A man was arrested after authorities say they found a foot-long alligator swimming in his bathtub.

Alexander Springer, 55, from Citra, was released from jail on Saturday, according to online records. He faces a charge of  possession of an alligator.

There were branches and tree limbs in the water "for it's environment," the incident report said

According to a Marion County Sheriff's Office report, the alligator was found after authorities were called to a residence in connection to a domestic disturbance.

"I noticed the alligator swimming around. The defendant admitted to having the alligator for a couple days and has fed it crickets," the deputy said in the incident report.

Springer told the deputy that he was planning to release the gator the next day, and that he had gotten the reptile from a friend.

The Florida Wildlife Commission told authorities that an arrest could be made, and that the deputy should release the gator into a lake.

It wasn't immediately known if Springer had an attorney.
