Thanksgiving Travel Off to Uneventful Start

Rain, snow, and high winds have been pelting the northeastern United States through much of the day, but still, the holiday travel weekend has gotten off to a relatively smooth start.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was experiencing average departure delays of 32 minutes as of 10 p.m. Wednesday. A total of 102 arrival delays were reported by Fort Lauderdale International along with 156 departure delays.

Traffic in and out of Miami International Airport was moving relatively smoothly as most flight delays or cancellations were coming out of the Northeast.

According to FlightStats.com, the airports with the most delays/cancellations were LaGuardia (New York), Newark Liberty International, Philadelphia International, and Reagan National. Combined, those airports accounted for 365 arrival cancellations/866 arrival delays and 385 departure cancellations/838 departure delays.

Travel plans for millions of Americans were being hampered by a nor'easter that began its march up the East Coast early Wednesday, lashing the region with heavy rain, NBC News reported. Forecasters warned the storm would bring up to 12 inches of snow in some areas as it moved north, with the New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Boston metro areas likely seeing snow before noon ET.
