The iconic South Beach mansion where clothing designer Gianni Versace was killed is listed for sale at $125 million.

It was built in 1930 by philanthropist Alden Freeman. Seven years later Jacques Amersterdam bought it and called it "The Amsterdam Palace," according to realtors Jill Eber and Jill Hertzberg of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, who listed the property.

In 1992 Versace bought it and spent $33 million on renovations, the realtors said. He was killed in front of the property in five years later.

Current owner Peter Loftin maintained Versace's designs.

“Right now, with the attention and action the high-end luxury real estate market in the Miami-area is receiving, it’s the perfect time to find the right buyer for this magnificent home. Whoever buys it will have instant celebrity,” said Hertzberg in a statement.

Loftin said it's a unique property.

“It’s a one-of-a-kind property, created by a genius; that is a piece of art, and a piece of history," he was quoted as saying.
