South Beach Resort Shooting Was Over Prostitutes: Report

Miami Beach Resort and Spa was evacuated after shooting on Saturday night

It's been a rough week to be a Russian in the U.S.

weekend shooting that forced the evacuation of over 1,000 guests at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa was spurred by a prostitution deal gone bad, reports the Miami Herald.

One man was killed after he was shot in the torso late Saturday night. Police have not released the name of the man, but a source close to the investigation has said the victim is a Russian national who was trying to buy prostitutes for him and a friend.

At some point, the prostitutes' pimp showed up and shot one of the men. The shooter and his hookers fled the scene before police arrived. A witness to the crime, the alleged second Russian, was questioned by police that night.

Currently, no one is in custody in connection with the murder. Police have also not explained what the foul odor was that spurred the evacuation of guests, including the Prime Minister of Belize.

Guests were allowed back in the hotel after about four hours.
