South Florida Millennials React to Clinton, Trump First Presidential Debate

It was a watch party stirring different reactions from South Florida millennials.

A group of mostly Latino students sat with a few professors in the library at Florida International University as presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump sparred Monday night.

"There's all kinds of opinions. People talked about the second amendment, economic opportunities and how they feel it will affect them."

Political Science Professor Eduardo Gamarra brought students together because he says the perspectives of millennials in this election is important and the student body at FIU includes another important group: Latinos.

"They are children of immigrants and millennials and when you combine that in the context of this election," said Gamarra.

A recent poll suggests most millennials are pro-Clinton.

In the four-way general election match-up, 49 percent of those under age 30 support Clinton, and 26 percent support Trump.

Prof. Gamarra said he's conducted polls at FIU and his research showed Latino millennials are also pro-Clinton.
