A South Florida radio host was arrested on a domestic battery charge after authorities say he grabbed his wife's neck during an argument in the couple's Cooper City home.
William Lewis, the host of "The Credit Report with Bill Lewis" on AM 740 WSBR, was arrested Tuesday night, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit.
According to the affidavit, Jennifer Lewis told deputies they were having a verbal argument when he "grabbed her neck from behind squeezing his hands around her neck."
She began to struggle and was able to break free before it affected her breathing, the affidavit said.
Lewis, 45, then grabbed his wife's cell phone to stop her from calling 911, the affidavit said. When she ran out of the home to call 911, he followed her, "stating if you call you know what will happen," the affidavit said.
Lewis drove off and his wife went back into the house and called 911. When deputies arrived, they found Lewis' wife "visibly shaken and crying," the affidavit said.
Jennifer Lewis said the couple's two young children were present during the argument and their oldest daughter was in her room and heard the argument, the affidavit said.
She told the deputies she had been scared to call 911 because her husband knows a lot of people in law enforcement, the affidavit said. She also detailed an incident two years ago in which Lewis sprayed her whole boy with Lysol during an argument and hit her in the face with the Lysol can, requiring a trip to the hospital and stitches, the affidavit said.
She said she didn't report that incident because she feared Lewis would cause harm to her or their children, according to the affidavit.
Lewis told deputies he never touched his wife and said they were in a verbal argument, the affidavit said. He was arrested and charged with battery and obstruction of justice for not letting his wife call 911, according to the affidavit.
Jail records showed he was being held on $5,000 bond Wednesday. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
