South Florida World War II Vets Return From Tour

A group of 76 World War II veterans returned from a Washington, D.C., sightseeing trip to an unexpected celebration in their honor at Palm Beach International Airport.

The Palm Beach Post reports that the veterans took an Honor Flight to the nation's capital. The flights give the veterans a chance to see the World War II Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and other sites.

Family, friends and strangers greeted the veterans when they returned home Saturday night.

Among the veterans was 91-year-old Jim Wright who was served on submarines during the war. Six of his ten children and many of his grandchildren and great grandchildren were at the airport to welcome him.

Local cub scouts also showed up to thank the veterans for their service.
