Spirit Airlines Flight Struck by Lightning

A Spirit Airlines plane that left Tampa and was bound for Atlantic City was struck by lightning Tuesday evening, the airline confirmed to NBC 6.

The airline said out of an abundance of caution, the pilot landed the plane at Fort Lauderdale International Airport because Spirit has a maintenance facility at the airport. Spirit also had an extra plane at Fort Lauderdale International which was going to be used as a replacement.

Spirit said the passengers of the flight that was struck by lightning have boarded the new plane and it is scheduled to leave for Newark soon.

No one was injured in the lightning strike.
