Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-2 win over the New York Mets.
The homer hit off the scoreboard in left field and was registered at 441 feet by Major League Baseball's Statcast. Not only did the ball travel far, but it do so with speed. The home run left with an exit velocity of 115.8 miles per hour.
When Stanton hit the HR, his team was behind by one run. After the blast, the Marlins had the lead and they never would surrender it. Stanton also added three singles for good measure. The outfielder is now hitting .241 on the season with 21 home runs and 55 runs batted in.
Christian Yelich had a fine day as well with three hits of his own and two runs scored. Yelich reached base four times and is hitting .326 on the season, which gives him a chance to end up the batting champion.
Jose Fernandez helped those runs stand up with another win at home. Miami's ace is 12-4 on the season with a 2.54 E.R.A In this one, Fernandez allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out seven in his seven innings. On the season, Fernandez is 9-1 with a 1.63 E.R.A when pitching at Marlins Park.
The Marlins moved back to 1.5 games ahead of the Mets with the win in the Wild-Card standings. If the season ended today, Miami would be in the postseason as the second Wild-Card. The Marlins currently trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by a game for the top slot. Miami is also 4.5 games back of the division-leading Washington Nationals.
Miami can pick up a big series win on Sunday when Jose Urena takes the mound against the Mets.
