Stanton and Realmuto Lead Marlins to Win

Giancarlo Stanton and J.T. Realmuto both homered in Miami's 7-1 win over Detroit on Friday

Giancarlo Stanton and J.T. Realmuto powered the Miami Marlins to a 7-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday.

In the penultimate game of the Grapefruit League, Stanton sent his third spring home run way out of Roger Dean Stadium. The slugger went 2-4 in the game overall and looks ready for Monday's season opener. Stanton is hitting .267 on the spring and has five runs batted in. In addition to his work in Jupiter, Stanton participated in the World Baseball Classic earlier this month.

Realmuto's HR was his first of the spring and it was of the three-run variety. The home run came in the seventh inning and gave Miami a comfortable lead.

Miami used the same lineup it is expected to trot out on Monday for this one. The results were positive and reassuring for a team that under-performed in the spring. The Marlins did not have their starting eight on the field together much this spring, but seemed to have good team chemistry in the win despite that.

In addition to Stanton and Realmuto's homers, Miami had four more extra-base hits in the win. Christian Yelich (4), Marcell Ozuna (5), Derek Dietrich (7) and Tyler Moore (4) all doubled to help the Marlins find the win column.

Adam Conley started the game, after being named as Miami's fifth starter earlier in the day. Conley went four scoreless innings and only allowed one hit. The lefty also walked a pair and struck out two.

The spring schedule will come to a close on Saturday against these same Tigers at 1:05 p.m.
