Stolen Car Suspects Lead Cops on High Speed Chase

Pursuit that began in Coral Springs ends in Hialeah

A high speed chase that began in Coral Springs ended with a crash and two people tased in Hialeah Wednesday after officers in pursuit of a stolen car were able to force it off the road.

Police arrested brothers Joel and Eric Sanudo, ages 19 and 18, and 30-year-old Chalu Louis for the grand theft auto stunt.

The group of suspects were in a white, four-door Toyota Camry when police spotted them driving around a neighborhood in Coral Springs that had reported several robberies recently.

When cops tried to pull over the vehicle it sped off, eventually heading southbound down I-75 shortly before noon with police squad cars not far behind.

Several other agencies joined the chase as the suspects desperately tried to get away, even slamming into  two Broward Sheriff's Office cruisers and a bus.

The car exited the highway in Hialeah and police followed the car as it drove through a residential area, swerving between the street and sidewalk.

At one point, the passenger side door opened and it appeared the car was slowing down, but it kept going.

Officers finally moved in to perform a PIT maneuver and nudge the car sideways to bring it to a stop.

The maneuver worked, and the car slammed backwards into another car at E. 8th Ave. and 65th St.

That's when one of the people in the car darted out in an effort to escape. Officers closed in and used a stun gun to bring him to the ground. At least two others in the Camry, including the driver, Joel Sanudo, were pulled from the car and put in handcuffs. One of the back seat passengers may have also been hit with a stun gun.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, all three men later admitted they were looking for a "nice neighborhood in Broward" where they could steal expensive outdoor equipment.

Joel Sanudo was charged with three counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, two counts of fleeing and eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and numerous traffic violations. Erick Sanudo is charged with resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Lewis is charged with resisting arrest without violence. Both Lewis and Erick Sanudo were charged with possession of a controlled substance after police found they had crystal meth in their possession.
